Work naturally takes a sedentary tone, everyone goes out for lunches daily, and coming in late/leaving early is overlooked. During this time you are catching up with old friends, and luckily I have been able to catch up with a few this week.

Time is going by and that is understood, but to state it plainly: we are getting older. People who have lived this transition call it "maturity", people who have not call it "giving up". Some make it through this with limited consternation; others have a quarter-life crisis. Personally, I have been faring ok (but as always I am unsure).

Discussions with friends have shifted from discussion of what amazing plans we have, to what we are going to do for the rest of our lives. Frankly it is scary, but a natural movement forward. We are all becoming more aware of our mortality, and deciding to either make a stand or keep running. I never thought I would consider putting in time, but I am now thinking of the "sunk costs" that are involved in the last few years of life (of course you are not supposed to consider sunk costs when making "business" decisions).

We are to the point where education is romantic; the post-grad honeymoon is over and the only way to combat it is to keep our minds right, or to figure out how to live without the allure of things being shiny and new. I am hoping I can continue to keep tings fresh, keep good people around me, and keep shooting for challenges so I do not lapse into oblivion.

Here is hoping, keep me on track my friends!

j

Insomnia; a blessing and a curse.

I got about 2 hours of good sleep between the hours of 10pm and 12am and I find myself wide awake with energy. Odd. While I work away to clean my room, clean the kitchen, and clean up other things around the house I think about life. After

a weekend of manual labor and beer (along with an awesome break on Sunday), I again appreciate what it seems life has given me in spades: great friends.

Relaxing on the back porch with my friends, enjoying a meal, a beer, and casual conversation, nothing bothers me. I can relax and be comfortable although life may be tossing me a few lemons as of late. It is surprising to me though, how so many good people coalesce around me. From old friends that go back before grade school to new friends who seem to come out of nowhere, intellegent, funny, and quality people pervade. Some may say it is a reflection of myself, but I don't think i could live up to such a reflection.

Most of the time when I write a blog, I try to have a message; make a statement. I don't know why this has resonated with me (maybe because I have heard the phrase about 5 times this week), but it made me want to blog for some reason. So if law is sausage, what kind would it be. I am initially vetoing the breakfast link because those seem orderly and the least difficult sausage to handle. So I am presuming it is patty of some kind, and I would guess it should be a kind that is hard to swallow. Anyway, I like law and sausage so maybe I am just messed up.

Otherwise things are going well in life. I had a great evening last night with my cousin in Aspen. I had a burrito at a restaurant that would have cost about $7 dollars in Denver, but since it is aspen it was a whopping $15, They also have a standard beer price (not even a pint glass) of $5.50. It got me thinking, why have the wealthy cornered the most awesome places on earth? What do the people who actually live in Aspen do? I presume they are investment banker or venture capitalist types. It makes me wonder a couple of things: do I really want to live in a ski town? (YES) What type of people would I hang out with? (I really don't know) I guess I have always presumed that my friends would visit early and often!

I observed a banner for the Aspen Ideas Festival. So I looked into it because I would really like to go to such an interesting and insightful event. I found out it is over 2 grand for a week (that is just registration) and then you are subject to the Aspen lodging vampires. I suppose before I jump into the Ideas festival I should just take a larger swath of the CU Conference on World Affairs next year.

Ahhhhh money... it is the devil Bobby!

"Today, I'm so happy to be alive."

The phrase written above is straight from the editor's desk of the Planet Jackson Hole weekley. I actually stated this phrase or something like it a number of times this weekend. The editor Matthew Irwin on the March 11-17 edition wrote an opinion piece that played to my mixed feelings about my past, present, and future in life. The words and advice in the column I found

to be profound about people's love of such an accessible place (wilderness wise) and the conflicting problems that come along with it.

"One has to earn a full-time life in Jackson."

It takes 45 minutes of hiking off of the tram (if you are in reasonable shape and not a "gaper") to get to great skiing or riding on the top of Cody Peak (pictured below). The accessibility of not only the ski area, but of the whole community is amazing. This is why the wealthy have decided to make it their playground, and those of us who are less fortunate are forced to really work hard to enjoy the same. I met a number of really interesting, great people who are working two or three part time jobs to pay the rent to stay in a house with five other people ($400 a month to live inbetween the kitchen table and the couch on a therma-rest - imagine that reality!).

The unifying theme between almost all of the people I met was a love of outdoor activity and a desire to just enjoy life. Anyone who knows me would find it obvious why I pine to live there. The last three days in Jackson have provided me with a number of things: the most challenging riding that I have done all year (the terrain is rediculous), the most restful and mentally rejuvinating vacation I could have hoped for, and increased continued internal conflict on what I should do with my life.

"Two primary reasons for leaving [Jackson Hole] are 1) it's heartbreaking to make new friends every season only to lose them to better opportunities elsewhere, and 2) better opportunities elsewhere."

The above quote from the same editorial suggests life in such a community isn't all good though; of the people I met in Jackson there seem to be two types (excluding tourists - gapers dont count). There are those people (such as my friend Mara) who are part timing, living on the cheap, and dipping into savings accounts to live there for a season or two. Then there are people who have full time 9-5 jobs who make the best that they can to live and work in Jackson (these people can't be said to be wealthy by any means either). The former envy the later for having stable employment and the opportunity to stay longer in the beautiful place. The later envy the former for their ability to go with the winds, catch powder days, events, and other great things in the community in their short time.

In short, I remain torn at the potential and possibility of living in Jackson or in a place that gives me all of the outdoor access and community that I really want. I do love living in Denver and there are great activities and communities in this city, but it is different desires that drive me to go elsewhere. It seems that weekends like this one, being in Jackson, driving back across the great expanse and beauty of central Wyoming, and watching the sunset at the Colorado-Wyoming border that make my guts ache for those opportunities on a more regular basis. I suppose I am currently in the mindset of being responsible, but maybe there are different kinds of responsibility and I am just doing the one that seems easiest to me.

Matthew Irwin explained in his piece that there are two primary reasons for leaving the Teton Valley; but anyway you look at it you are giving up something at the opportunity cost of another thing in any situation or in any place where you live. I am selling my opportunities in Denver, just as Mara is in Jackson, or Peter is in Fairbanks. I am by working for the state, like Matt is by working for Lockheed, like Wes is by going to grad school in Berkeley. When we really reflect upon it, we just have to be ok with what we are selling for what we are getting. Weekends like this one though, make it hard to stomach.

After a long and thoughtful weekend, I figured that I would write a little. Lately as some may know I have had a lot on my mind. Work has been busy, and otherwise life has been a rollercoaster. The only thing keeping me sane are those small moments in powder where I get a face shot or when i float on top of a couple of turns.

Now it has occured to me that many more people don't know this feeling of release and extreme joy than do. There are people who understand the connection of people like myself and my friends, and to a increased severity people who work shit jobs for the chance to live in or close to the wilderness and outdoor places that they love, and the west (as a place i pretty much mean from New Mexico north and west). These people recognize and respect our facination with these places.

On the other hand there are many people, some I know well and remain un-named, who don't understand or even try to realize what a good day or two in the mountains can do for one's soul. Within that misunderstanding, they criticize and berade those who make a conscious decision to live near to that which they love; declaring them "stupid" or "selfish" for sacraficing things like monitary income and urban living.

Well, if it is selfish I'm ok with that! If it is "stupid" then I guess I am so! I find solace in the solitude and find god (whatever denomination it may be) in the vistas of sweeping desert and craigy mountains. If I am crazy for not wanting to move east to double or triple the population of where I currently live, higher unemployement, more obesity, and for god sake no mountains or deserts then send me to fucking Pueblo (for those who don't know Colorado, Pueblo is the home of the state mental hospital - I'd still be happier in Pueblo than anywhere in the mid-west).

In conclusion, those out east can live like sardines, work their 70 hour weeks, collect their large checks, and do as they will. I will continue to make enough to live and collect memories of good views, great friends, and feel good about myself.

- Jarrod

You can't deny the power of this post. This is the kind of moral leader the Republican party needs if they intend to ever become a reasonable party again. Pandering to the Christian right may win elections... but it is losing the hearts and minds that matter: those of the American People and those that believe in the true American ideal.

"Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country?"

"I'm also troubled by, not what Senator McCain says, but what members of the [Republican] party say. And it is permitted to be said such things as, "Well, you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim." Well, the correct answer is, he is not a Muslim, he's a Christian. He's always been a Christian. But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer's no, that's not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president? Yet, I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion, "He's a Muslim and he might be associated terrorists." This is not the way we should be doing it in America.

I feel strongly about this particular point because of a picture I saw in a magazine. It was a photo essay about troops who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. And one picture at the tail end of this photo essay was of a mother in Arlington Cemetery, and she had her head on the headstone of her son's grave. And as the picture focused in, you could see the writing on the headstone. And it gave his awards--Purple Heart, Bronze Star--showed that he died in Iraq, gave his date of birth, date of death. He was 20 years old. And then, at the very top of the headstone, it didn't have a Christian cross, it didn't have the Star of David, it had crescent and a star of the Islamic faith. And his name was Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, and he was an American. He was born in New Jersey. He was 14 years old at the time of 9/11, and he waited until he can go serve his country, and he gave his life. Now, we have got to stop polarizing ourself in this way. And John McCain is as nondiscriminatory as anyone I know. But I'm troubled about the fact that, within the party, we have these kinds of expressions."

- Colin Powell

Elsheba Khan at the grave of her son, Specialist Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan.

What do pickled, gold horned sheep and the Economic crisis have in common?

Seemingly nothing, but when you wake up on a Monday to read the NY Times Opinion Column by Roger Cohen you see that there can be some interesting nexus' between the seemingly worthless and that which is viewed as valuable. Interestingly enough that nexus that Cohen brings up is the juxtaposition and anomaly of the value of the two at the current time.

I have been learning more these last two weeks about mortgage backed securities, investment banks v. commercial banks, interdependency of world markets and the like. There is a large world out there, linked to a place known as wall street, neither of which i fully comprehend or understand; but I'm trying. I have never felt too much need to understand the world market, as it has always seemed like with my compensation package and plight in my decision to work for the government, i would never have the kind of income that serious investment demands. But anymore things look like with or without any "investments" my savings rate, 401k and other necessary evils have been nosediving too.

In Cohen's article he discusses the need for the United States to re-evaluate its role in the world. As the "hegemon" that many believe we still are, we continue to spout a sort of American exceptional ism, and as I am reading through Colin Dueck's book Reluctant Crusaders the liberal foreign policy principles have outstripped our realist contingent and moved us as not only a crusading by means of war, but by the means of sanctions and financial markets as well (none of this a new idea, but Cohen's article brings up good points). Our monetary crusades may have also come home to roost, as we have been outplayed in the world markets and overstretched at home (as evidenced by our "housing bubble", "credit bubble", all the way back to our "tech bubble"). We have held a false sense of domestic market security and overstretched our national abilities while selling ourselves down the river with negative provisions in NAFTA, bailouts in foreign countries, freedom come in the middle east, and more.

It is important here to explain, it is not that i disagree with the idea of a liberal foreign policy centered around American style democracy, but it is that my realist jaunt is uneasy with the progress and the resulting exposure that we have subjected ourselves to; and may be now paying for. In being caught up in spreading our democracy in any way we know how, we have overlooked the progress of other countries while still believing ourselves to be the hegemon. Now we are being snapped back to reality.

It is Cohen's contention that other countries continue to let us play the role, while playing a shorter hand than they have been given. China is the prime example of a world power that for all intensive economic purposes has take much of the United States wealth (through its status as the "factory floor" to the world). With hundreds of billions of dollars in cash assets there is no offer for assistance as the United States would be expected to make as the "hegemon". If and when we "bail out" wall street we will also be "bailing out"world markets and allowing other countries to profit as the American taxpayer buys the "bad" out of the market.

Again it is not that I am against the extension of our ideals, but we need to re-evaluate our position and look internally at where we have left ourselves.

TV On the Radio have a line: "I was a lover / before this war". By the time our financial world war is over, I am convinced I will stop being a believer too.

Long weekend

Sometimes when what you do for work on friday really isn't in the realm of work, you feel that you have had a long weekend. For example, I was at a conference in Breckenridge on friday, I may have spent an hour in the office in total once we got back, but in retrospect it is feeling like a long weekend to me today (Sunday).

It probably didn't help that I did some alcoholic time travel on friday night, but regardless I am sticking to my story about light work resulting in a feeling of day off.

So the weekend has been eventful. As mentioned a long night at Armidas singing the kareoke wonders of a little band called Journey, seems to always brighten any weekend. Possibly belting out your best Steve Perry impression creates some sort of wave of euphoria that I have been riding through the weekend. Im guessing sweet baseball tix, college football saturday, and enjoying the company of great friends doesn't hurt either.

I am tempted to call in sick tomorrow and actually make a long weekend. I had the offer to climb Mt. Quandry or some of the Collegeite peaks (which is very enticing) but I also have a dentist appointment tomorrow so they can look at the big holes in my mouth resultant from removing my teeth. Maybe it is my sensible nature, but I have declined the invitation to go on an awesome outing.

In further news. Im wondering what people are thinking about the McCain-Obama throwdown that is our electoral process. With the latest pollster.com poll putting the Republican nominee six delegates past the Democratic nominee (which is well within the margin of error) the pundits are saying their predictions but for all intensive purposes it is a dead heat.

What are people thinking. We have the experience arguement weighing differently in each camp between the top and bottom of the ticket. We have both camps saying change (one far behind the other in terms of adoption of the mantra). And as always we have the liberal television, conservative talk radio, media bias. Does anyone ever think about how the media in its digressing state is still just trying to sell you something from either side.

They both say change, but they dont outline it very well. I try to boil it down to the "average voter"and through my political science study I think i have determined my sister and brother in law to be two of the most average voters I can think of. I ask them what they think and I begin to understand their limited exposure to polical talk. They dont have a lot of time to think and study political issues and I believe they eventually become single issue voters (if they take time to vote). So I always measure the effectiveness of political advertising to "what my sister would think". It makes me very sad that we select our presidents in this method.

my prediction.... something has to come out in the next month about one or both of the candidates. McCain can't keep going around saying the economy is "fundamentally sound" when even government investments are taking large hits (A colorado government investment pool dropped below one dollar this last week and had to be sold off to steady the investments of those local governments. I overheard that a school district in northern colorado lost 5 million in investments in a day due to the collapse.)

Barack has to be tough, stand on principles and keep fighting smear attacks from the other side. There is going to be an inordinate amount of attack ads against Obama purely due to McCains decision to take public financing. There will be far fewer attacks against McCain because of the need for Obama not to split his fundraising opportunites into 527 groups. (Kinda sad because Bush ripped McCain apart in 2000 with the 527 crowd).

Needless to say, this election is important. With infrastructure failure in the United States I feel that it is important that we begin to concern ourselves with domestic policy much more than foreign policy in the coming years. We are looking down the barrel of high unemployment, high inflation, credit crunch time. We have become accustomed to a high standard of living, and this just won't work for americans anymore. My generation will have to change, live in smaller houses, work more hours, eat out less, and a slew of other economic needs. The only problem being selling that to the "average american".

Maybe ill move... Im thinking Sweeden!

Sometimes you wonder what a defibrillator really feels like!

No... seriously did you ever wonder what it would be like to have a number of volts jolted through your body? I am imagining that Peter can describe the feeling at least in kind from his "donkey punch from God"experience. Being struck in the back of the head by a lightning shock wave may not be the same feeling as heart paddles to save you from cardiac arrest, but possibly it jump started his brain.

Anyway, the title also refers to me trying to revive this blog. As I remember my compadre mentioned a few months ago something about wanting to get this sucker going again as a way to communicate now that he has returned to the "great white north"(I never really thought about that, but it is "white"in more ways than one... Palin may be proof!). I'm hoping this works.

So first off... the Update!

Well I will start with Peter. As I have mentioned he is living his life in a dorm, going to graduate school up at the University of Alaska - Fairbanks Campus. I'm sure that is thrilling; recently I read a newspaper article mentioning the wonders of traveling through Alaska... and then how much Fairbanks sucks in comparison. Enjoy Peter!

He had spent the last winter in Salt Lake City being the quintessential ski bum at the famed Alta Ski Resort. He would call me when I was sitting in my cubicle and torture me with his stories of feet of powder, free drinks, and other various lore. (What an asshole!)

I will let him update on himself further.

On to me, Since the last post (Long Long Ago in a land far away) I have graduated from Grad school, procured gainful employment in Denver CO, and been enjoying myself through various methods of drink, outdoor activity, and playing dice!

Things in life are a little better in the Metro, since living in Monte Vista can tend to bring people down and contribute toward alcoholism (I may have become subject although i have escaped).

Anyway... furthermore

We will be posting more often. I have been blogging in areas such as facebook and others, but I am preferring now to concentrate my efforts into this realm.

I bid you adieu.

Sweet winter

Hello anyone,

It is February now, and it is awsome. We have had 8 inches of snow in the last two days and it makes me happy. Not having time off to go to the hill is making me sad. I am really disappointed with it... it sucks. I hope I can get to the hills because im tired of driving to denver and crap every weekend. I wish people would come down here and see me. I have come to update you about the progressions of our lives for the last couple of months.
As i stated in the previous post, Peter is now a log jamming member of the village people being the construction worker for Pinkard (what kind of name is that)where he wears cut off shorts, tight white shirt, hard hat with a rainbow colored bumper sticker that says "i like balls in my face". He seems to be enjoying himself in boulder with regular trips to the STYR and stripping for wealthier members of the male community.
As for me i have moved back to my motherland where i was conceived, carried, born, raised, and educated for the most part: Monte Vista. I have started a job as an Administrative Intern for Rio Grande County and am continuing my educational journey to obtain a masters degree while i do this whole program. For the last month i have been learning the ol' in out in out of the local political scene, and trying to play a bit of a hand in it. Since there is nothing to do here (i have 4 channels of TV) I have started running more often, reading a lot, and pullin the pud.
I hope that we can update a little more often now that we are not taking classes (or at least peter is not) and get some input from our friends (if we have any left).

Keep it real

jarrod

Spring Time Update

Hello all once again to the Blog of Jarrod and Peter. We haven't posted for a while so let me do the quick and dirty, (I don't mean pete's ass).
First we have had some successful snowboarding since the last post, including one amazing week in Vail that peter and I got 3 days in and wes got 2. Peter graduated college, went to Azerbaijan, turkey, Israel, Egypt, and then started his new job as a lackey at a construction firm, (sidenote: he disappears every day for about 9 hours, and sometimes he doesn't return in the night. This is suspicious I wonder if he is actually working for a construction firm or being a day walking, hepatitis infested, loose anused, vampire hooker. I have launched an investigation into this and more will follow.) On a personal note I have continued in school and actually started taking some masters classes in Denver. I lined up an internship that will start in may down in the SLV and will probably knock up some 16 year old as soon as I move down, go to jail for a year, and work at the lumber yard for the rest of my life. (more on that as it develops) So things here are still spectacular as I hope they are just as well where ever you are!

Signing off
Jarrod

The season is now open

First day of Snowboardin/skiing for pete and i. The snow was suprisingly good today, at A-Basin. Enjoyed a few runs although there was a bit of crowding. If the season follows anything like todays example, it will be a wonderfully great season with a bit of wind.

Danials last week of freedom

To those of you the accompanied us out to the bars on Friday you were treated to a real show, Daniels aka rando, aka baseless conservative traveled all the way from venereal Utah for a night on the town, and what a night it was. Even the Capitan himself showed up, but his performance was soon outshined by his arch nemesis Jarrod the merciless butt pirate. You could just sense the fear as Jarrod molested the Capitan and his deck hands in a glossy eyed tiriad. Once the Capitan had been morally and sexually devastated it was time to move the next victim. After snot rocketing on the floor of the walrus it was apparent who the victim would be. Linda, jarrods unsuspecting girlfriend didn’t know that the pirate was coming her way. It is at the point Linda got upset, aparently she wasnt happy about seeing jerry in such amusing state. she should be honored that the only place jarrod the pirate wanted to go that night was to see her. Good luck with the damage control jerry just remember you didn’t do anything other then have a good time, you got the rest of your life to be old and responsible, and now we know that Linda truly hates your roommates. After that it was on to the foundry and the scum downer, and apparently Burger King. For more info on this part of the night you will have to talk to Mara seeing as she is the only one who really remembers this section of the night. Thanks for driving. Good times

Moab Fall break!

We had a wonderful 4 day vacation to the beautiful Moab, Utah area this last extended Weekend. As has followed by tradition we went, we biked, we hot tubbed, and we camped in the area (and got a great day in at Fruita as well). If you dont know us then you dont know this is one of our very favorite outings of the year. We spent 4 days straight of biking on the raddest trails around and enjoying the company of the crew i would like to call the possie. The interesting facts are that we get about 50 people who say they would love to go with us every fall break, but how many did we end up with???? 8, That is right 8 people on the trip, most the hard cores that have made it to most of the trips, but only 4 of us had been on 6 or more of these moab trips. That included Pete, Wes, Kenny, and I. But anyway, for all of those who say they would love to go with us, we will present new oppertunities, but we dont stand for people who overly whine, complain or bitch about anything and they better be able to put up with our bad gas (especially mine). Overall i would give the trip an A+. I recommend to everyone 5 days in the desert with some good friends, good food, good beer, and good biking.

P.S. is it odd that all the girls who wanted to go didn't it was a total guys trip with 7 and 2/3 men and 1/3 women (corey was kind of bitchy and angry after his stiches)

Dodgeball Champions!! We beat some team that looked like a bunch of uniformed melvins with a couple of fat angry balding guys on their team. Anyway we beat them 6 to 3 in games. Thanks to John for pulling a girl out of the woodwork to play for us. It has been a while since our last update, and i know that everyone has been anxiously awaiting this post. So to the news....
Weekend consisted of drinking, smoking, and passing out on saturday and on thursday apparently i lost some respect... but whatever. Besides the losing of respect and the fun times of the weekend, there was football and work for me. We will be playing in the dodgeball championships next week and the football semi finals as well. so a sports filled week is in store when we get back from MOAB.

Moab will start late tomorrow and continue until we break our bikes or our selves (or sunday comes)

Until then im sure we will have updates following.... enjoy

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jarrodandpete.blogspot.com/2005/10/dodgeball-champions-for-real.html' title='Dodgeball Champions!! All that we have to do is get White House press secretary Scott McClellan on our team. I just spent like 45 minutes watching a White House Breifing on CSPAN and i have never seen such a ducking, diving, and dodging effort in my life. Im sure Ari Flischer had some of the same mad skills but i remember when he did it he still had some honesty with it. McClellan gave quite a performance, putting out answers that would just numb the minds of the reporters asking, to where they just would give up. One of the reporters after the breifing i even heard say, "my question was wrong". How can a question be wrong? maybe it has no answer, but it was amazing how McClellan did his job. The great thing is that if McClellan is hit, he will just play it off like a bunch of the bastards that we play. Im sure he will say something like he did when a question stumped him. Something along the lines of "That ball didn't count, because the president is committed to the war and will not forget what happened on 9/11", or "The progress is being made in iraq, look at the numbers from last year to this year to 3 months ago, we have more iraqi troops, therefore the ball was dead when it hit me." Im sure that he wouldn't be very good at catching the balls so we would not get any extra people in, but with him in he can never get hit, you just cant nail him down so eventually he would just have to win the game for us. So in conclusion, i think we should start writing letters to Mr. McClellan to recruit him to our dodgeball team. This will make up for the loss of Big Pete Calvin next semester, plus give us a gaurenteed championship win. Start writing team we got work to do.

Weekend Update!

Another great weekend has passed. Creeping toward that great weekend that will be spent in Moab. We played two football games this weekend and kicked ass in both. Friday night i went with linda to see "A history of violence" I dont know how to discribe it to anyone and i thought it was good but very weird and graphic. Saturday night i proceded to get wasted as my friend Nate was in town for his LSAT test and it was laura's going away party. Fun times.... apparently i got really drunk, passed out on the kitchen floor, tried to fight peter and in the process broke a bowl.... pretty standard for me. Sunday included more work for me at the circuit.... im liking my new position a lot better than the old one. People were drunk and said things. Its not like this doesnt happen every couple weeks. Everyone on here is getting really serious about nothing. Now to respond to the personal attacks from the blog of god. Im taking 16 credit hours, not 15 and they are all engineering, im not an alcholic, still got along way to reach that status, and you are correct that i dont have a job but instead of enjoying my self working and going to school in boulder for the summer i spent it in Elk Shitty Oklahoma working 80 - 90 hours a week. I think i have earned a fun semester. Also bike crazed maybe, i just want to get out and ride during the great weather with friends, does that make me a bad person. So if anyone is down to ride the invitation is still extended, you best be ready for Moab. After class Wes and i hightailed it to denver, had some dinner, and went to the Idlewild show. The show was awsome and all the opening bands were really suprisingly good. Idlewild also had a great stage show which was to be expected. I would really like to know what their opinions on touring in the US are with the different pay rates and the meager crowds that come to their shows compared to those of the UK and europe. Let us start with friday night. After getting off of school Pete and i ventured to the bike store and rented some movies. We had dinner and watched the Longest Yard (new). The critics said that this movie was bad, but it was halarious. We will pull many one liners from it like "I think i made him shit himself", and "Who gives a shit" (obviously these two phrases can not be expressed to their full potential with just typing, but you will hear them). Afterward we began to play one on one beerpong for a couple of games. The first was won my myself leaving pete 3 cups on my side. The second was won by peter. The fact was that peter went on a surge in the second game making me drink about 6 beers very quickly. Being bloated i thought that smoking would be a good idea to settle my stomach (and i was drunk from the drinks previous to beerpong plus). When I had inhaled instead of coughing which is normal i instead vomited immediately after (of which a gracious amount expelled upon pete's hand which was holding the lighter). Along with that episode i kept telling linda when she would call me that i would come drinking with her at the bar and that i was just at the bar down the street and would meet her soon thereafter. This caused drama for much of the rest of the weekend as a trip to greely with linda was planned and executed the following day. Pete must express what he did that following day as i dont know so well, but I made the trip to greeley where my sister had a birthday barbecue and linda went to fort collins. I made it back to boulder around 10pm and went directly to ruby's house where beerpong and quarters was being played. After drinking a bit there we went in nelly's car to the bars, which were kind of weak. An arguement occured and peter and i started to walk back to ruby's to get the car. We stopped by Katies house and had some fun times seeing some ass and scaring some highschoolers out of that party. After a detour by Mc D's and not being served in the drivethrough on foot, we returned after we got the car and sketch spilled ketchup and mustard in linda's car (which pissed her off). On Sunday i drove to Ft. Collins and picked up linda and then proceeded to go to work at 11:30, 1.5 hours late. Not really caring if i kept the job at circuit i was approached by Rich (store manager) at about 11:45 and he offered me a promotion which i in turn accepted. So all in all the weekend of drinking, pissing off the woman, and being late to work resulted in a promotion and a $1.50 raise. I live like a rockstar for a reason... because at sometime in my life it has to work out.... right?

To jam or to be too lazy to jam

On one recent evening (last night) an invitation was extended toward myself and wes to attend one "jam session" after i got off of work at 9:30 pm. So when the calls were made after i had gotten off of work, those doing the inviting were very resistant to lend a helping hand to those of us less fortunate fellows with less than functional or no vehicular abilities. True i could have gone and worked on the fuel pump of my blazer in a jiff and gotten over to the M&M house, but call me crazy after being at work/school since 6 that morning i didn't feel quite like it. the jam session ended up being a two man jam on our end, with non-flat tasty beer (we have the kegerator going again) and tons of learning of songs. This got me wondering does M&M prescribe to the jam of convienience philosopy? The Jam of convienience philosophy usually is used by musicians that feel like they are superior to all others in their musical skills, thus if any music is to be played with those who follow this philosophy, all others must come to them as being the best constitutes being the center of the musical universe. I personally prescribe to the "music is fun so play it whenever (unless i have opertunities elsewhere)" philosophy. Wes adheres to a very similar method although his (oppertunities elsewhere) only consist of homework because he is so dedicated to the art of guitar and jamming. Anyway i do not want to place any blame on M&M, (shown with the anonimity), but only wanted to question their committment to the cause of good beer, bad music, and even worse singing.

What makes a republican

Over the past couple blogs accusations have been flying. Well im sure either Laura, mara, are Maura will give us a lengthy explanation, if they can fit it into their busy schedules of indentured servitude and babysitting.

WTF

I dont really know what is going on between the comments on the dodgeball post and the post of the other side of this magnificent two headed monster of a blog, but all i know is that if some people would stop pretending to be liberal and just show their "wild" republican sides we could all just get along a little better. And a little aside to peter, dont cave on the whole "i like you, your fun to hang out with, eres bonita," kind of stuff, because if you jump too far you fall into their traps, (i.e. trips to pottery barn and bed bath on saturdays instead of skiing, them telling you your an alcoholic, etc...)

Beware of the Sninga

This post is in response to comments from a certain person we wont mention her name we will just refer to her as the closet republican, lesbian Subaru driving, maid for the day, indecisive lollygagger. Now that her identity has been protected we can proceed.
Item 1:
Horrible at flip cup, we are not just talking bad here, it is truly sad to watch, i often had to look away out of shear embarrassment for her. We have tried to tell her in the past but the napoleon complex that she suffers from just wont let the truth be told. And can we say LIGHT WEIGHT, come on people, you went to UC Boulder, two beers should not put you over the edge.
Item 2:
I have never claimed to be an emotional man, its true it takes a lot to make me cry. But im from Alaska, at the first sign of weakness my tribe would have sacrificed me to the polar bears. While i may have been able to club baby seals with the best of them, I don’t think i would have lasted long against a bear with only my hands and feet to defend me. To be honest as i think accused will agree the sninga is not the most emotional one her self. I saw her cry once but it was only because she lost one of her hoop earrings.
Item 3:
Seeing that I am an engineer i have an extremely limited vocab its a fact. I know numbers, when it comes to expressing my self verbally i gots problems.

Well i hope that clears everything up, all identities have been protected and it is understood that our dodge ball team will rise again, we will not quit until john nikkle does the touchdown dance on the bodies of our opponents after the championship game.

Dodgeball

So we lost at dodgeball tonight, but the only reason was because the other team had fucking A-Rod. I mean how do we expect to win when the highest payed player in MLB is playing on the other team. the crazy thing was that he was actually just playin defense, and his offense was marginal (one hit off of a kind of sac-bunt by briggs). Anyway he would just stand there with two and sometimes three dodge balls, cradling them like they were the future of our race on this planet. He wouldn't throw the ball even when we were threatening to pee in his butt. I couldn't believe this, A-Rod defensive player of the year. Another yankee's player was there too, he was swinging his bat a bit though. Jeter was in the house wearing some fucked up plaid shorts. he threw a bit more, but was marginally productive. He didn't have the same impact that A-rod had on the game. With guys like that playing on their team, their team name needed to be "kings of the only balls we have are meant for throwing and are being held in our arms, pussy losers". even my girlfriend and all the other girls in the house had more balls than A-rod. and that is counting the ones he was holding all night. Anyway enough of that, if they want to play pussyball instead of dodgeball they need to go somewhere else, but the refs were a couple of dumb cunts too....

So, pete and I were driving eastbound on arapaho and right in front of niropa university there is a man who gets all pissed that we didn't stop for him in the cross walk. my thoughts on the matter were as follows
"shit man you go to nairopa. you are supposed to be some easy going buddhist peice of shit... asshole"

Introduction

Hello, if you have ventured this far prepare to delve into the minds of two of the most netorious characters in colorado and its adjoining states. If you read forward you will be treated to some of the innermost thoughts of one Peter Calvin and One Jarrod Biggs. Prepare to enter the Twilight Zone.....

anyway enough of that, pete and i decided to post a blog pretty much to place all the things we have been posting on Matt daniels blog back on the web for reading, as he has been immediately removing them from his blog comments due to censorship reasons. We figure this will give us a constructive outlet for our genious.

Details from the weekend are as follows....
Thursday- Pete went out and somehow got home, jarrod had work at 6 on friday
Friday- Tons of fun as jarrod and pete got destroyed at beerpong and then kicked ass at flip cup. Currently practicing nightly on beer pong problem.
Saturday- after a 3pm football ass kicking by us the Evil Shenanigans we went to ruby's house and played beer pong again getting beat handily. Drinking followed by bed at 11 pm gave us a good nights sleep to power up on sunday.
Sunday- Work for Jarrod, Pete went biking (lucky)

In my closing statement i would like to express my greatest appriciation to wes this weekend because without him, we would have had to crash in some unsavory places. THANKS WES!

We will post links in all of our comments on matts blog and comments on that will follow.

i think i made my point

-jarrod
